The following three diagrams summarize slope sign tests, that is first
derivative tests, for the location of high and low points inside an interval or
at its end points.
The above tests may locate the maximums and minimums for
functions f(x) or ski trails y = f(x). But
remember that they do not say which high point or which high points have the
greatest height on a graph. Nor do they say which low point or low points have
the lowest height.
