Success and Failure of the
Side Angle Side Method
Side Angle Side (SAS) Triangle method works when the given included angle is
less than two right angles or 180 degrees and the give sides lengths are
positive.
Example:

The second and third vertices are places at distances S1
and S2 from the angle at A.
The SAS method may also work

when the given angle (in figure, 220o) is greater than two right angles or 180 degrees. The
case where the given angle is equal to two right angles (180 degrees) would give a flat
triangle with three collinear vertices.
But if
we insist (as in accordance with normal practice) the SAS method only be applied when the angle is less than two right
angles, the cases where the given angle is greater than and even equal to two right
angles would be excluded. .
